Honeywell Thermostat Offline or No Wi-Fi Icon? How to Fix It

The Short Answer

Two different problems look alike:

Either way, the thermostat keeps running your heating and cooling locally; you just lose app control until it reconnects.

Step 1: Power-Cycle and Update

  1. Power-cycle the thermostat: Honeywell’s step is to remove it from the wall plate for 30 seconds, then reattach it.
  2. Restart the router and wait for it to come fully back up.
  3. Update the Resideo app and your phone’s operating system. Deleting and reinstalling the app does not affect your account.
  4. Check for maintenance: during service work the Honeywell Home or Total Connect Comfort app shows a “Maintenance” pop-up.

Step 2: Check Honeywell’s Network Requirements

This is where most stubborn cases end. Honeywell’s No Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide lists what its thermostats need:

Honeywell also lists business and enterprise networks and guest networks as unsupported. Connect the thermostat to your main home network.

Step 3: Reset and Reconnect the Wi-Fi

For the T5, T5+ and T6 Pro Wi-Fi, Honeywell’s reset steps run through the Resideo app:

When you are asked for the Wi-Fi password, check the network name matches your 2.4 GHz network exactly.

Step 4: Isolate the Network

Still failing? Honeywell suggests temporarily connecting the thermostat to an alternate network, such as your phone’s hotspot, to register it. If it works there, the problem is your router’s settings; your router maker or internet provider can help with the requirements above. Honeywell Home technical support is at 1-800-633-3991.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Honeywell thermostat say offline?

Usually a network problem: a 5 GHz or combined network, band steering, a changed router or password, or an unsupported network type. Power-cycle the thermostat, restart the router, then check Honeywell’s requirements: 2.4 GHz, WPA2-AES, DHCP on, band steering off.

Does a Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostat work on 5 GHz?

Most models need 2.4 GHz. Honeywell notes the T9 and T10 support 5 GHz.

How do I reset the Wi-Fi on a Honeywell T5 or T6 Pro?

In the Resideo app, select the thermostat, tap the settings icon at the top right and choose Reset WiFi at the bottom of the screen, then follow the prompts.

Will my Honeywell thermostat still heat and cool when offline?

Yes. It keeps running your system from the thermostat; only app control and remote features stop until it reconnects.
