How to Reset a Honeywell Thermostat: Steps for Every Wi-Fi Model

The Short Answer

Honeywell Home thermostats have several different resets, and the steps depend on the model. Pick the smallest reset that fits the problem: a factory reset wipes your setup, and you will have to configure the thermostat for your heating and cooling system again.

ResetUse it when
Wi-Fi resetThe thermostat is offline, or you changed router or Wi-Fi password
Schedule resetThe schedule is a mess and you want the default back
HomeKit resetApple Home pairing has stopped working (models that support it)
Factory resetYou are moving out, starting setup again, or support has told you to

A reset does not fix wiring or power. If the screen is blank, see smart thermostat black screen; if it says Wait, see Honeywell says Wait. All steps below are from Honeywell Home’s reset guide.

T5, T5+ and T6 Pro Smart (RCHT8610WF, RCHT8612WF, TH6320WF2, TH6220WF2)

Press and hold Menu, press > until you see Reset, and select it. Then press > to the reset you want and select it:

Honeywell has a separate walkthrough for resetting Wi-Fi on the T5, T5+ and T6 Pro, including reconnecting it in the app afterwards.

T9 (RCHT9510WF, RCHT9610WF)

T10 (THX321WF)

The T10 keeps its resets behind the installer menu. First note the date code under Thermostat Information, then open Installer Options and enter that code.

Smart / Lyric Round (TH8732WFH)

Wi-Fi 9000 Colour Touchscreen (RTH9580WF, RTH9585WF, TH9320WF)

FocusPRO 6000 Wi-Fi (TH6320WF1, RTH6580WF)

These use function codes. Press and hold the up arrow and Fan together. The number on the left is the function; the number on the right is its setting. Change them as below, then press Done.

ResetLeft numberRight number
Factory reset901
Wi-Fi reset390
Schedule reset851

VisionPRO 8000 Wi-Fi (TH8320WF, RTH8580WF)

Press System, then press and hold the blank centre box to open the function menu. Set the numbers as below and press Done.

ResetLeft numberRight number
Factory reset07101
Wi-Fi reset09000
Schedule reset01651

On the newer TH8321WF: for a factory reset go to Menu → Dealer Information, note the date code, then Installer Options, enter the code and choose Reset to Defaults → Yes. Wi-Fi is under Menu → WiFi Setup and the schedule under Menu → Preferences → Default Schedule.

Not Sure Which Model You Have?

The model number is usually printed on the back of the thermostat, behind the faceplate. Honeywell’s guide covers its Wi-Fi models; for a battery-powered, non-connected thermostat, look up the manual by that model number, or call Honeywell Home support on the number in the guide. After any factory reset you will need to run setup again, including the equipment type, so have a photo of your wiring to hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I factory reset a Honeywell T5 or T6 thermostat?

Press and hold Menu, press the right arrow until you see Reset and select it, then press the arrow to Factory Reset and select it.

How do I reset the Wi-Fi on a Honeywell thermostat?

On the T5, T5+ and T6 Pro: press and hold Menu, go to Reset, then select WiFi. On the T9 and T10: Menu, WiFi, Change Network. On FocusPRO 6000 Wi-Fi models: hold the up arrow and Fan, set the left number to 39 and the right to 0, then press Done.

Will resetting my Honeywell thermostat fix a blank screen or no heat?

Usually not. A reset changes settings; a blank screen is a power problem and no heat is usually wiring, settings or the equipment. Check those first.

What does a factory reset erase on a Honeywell thermostat?

Honeywell does not list every item, but a factory reset returns the thermostat to its defaults, so expect to run setup again for your heating and cooling system, reconnect Wi-Fi and rebuild the schedule.
